Marriage: A DIY Date Night at Home
Now that we're a family of three, Rob and I have learned pretty quickly that it's not always easy to get out on dates like we used to. However I'm of the belief that we need not give up on it altogether, so I've decided to plan a weekly DIY date night at home! Once a week (and once the baby goes down), we curl up on the couch for a little snuggle but to make it more fun, I've invested in some fun decor!
We're binge watchers like many couples, but instead of snacking on whatever's leftover in the fridge, I thought it would be fun to shake things up! Uncommon Goods is one of my favorite online markets to shop special gifts for friends and family. You can find unique jewelry, designer décor, tabletop items and handcrafted gifts all made by one of a kind artists and designers! I stumbled upon a nice wine decanter and a slate state of Florida shaped cheese plate; perfect to up my movie night snack game a bit. But while I pretty much live on wine and cheese, Rob LOVES popcorn so I was also excited to surprise him with a mini "create your own" popcorn bar, complete with gourmet kernels and complimentary seasonings!
To step things up from the grocery store pre-made bags, I found the COOLEST microwave popcorn popper. It was easy to make endless combinations of flavored popcorn like Sweet Onion, Spicy Cajun, Pumpkin Pie and Dark Chocolate and it doubles as a fun activity to do together before settling down to get into some serious Netflix watching!
The best part about having an at home DIY date night is that it's something small we can do together. Before the baby, date night always involved some sort of extravagant dinner or an after work meetup for happy hour and a concert, but the common thread was always the quality time that we had with each other. Some of my favorite moments have come from the random conversations that happen during those times, so no matter where the location, I love spending time just the two of us. We may be busy taking care of our sweet girl all day every day, but it's also important to nurture our relationship too. Finding news ways to enjoy each others company has been so fun!
