Baby Update: 12 Months
This 12 month baby update seems to have gotten here a lot quicker than I imagined; they warn you about this in the beginning so this one's a quickie because I can't handle much more emotion! Arya is a 1 year old baby, and has officially turned into a real live person. She's absorbing so much on a daily basis and it's freaking me out, just as much as it is exciting me! I swear some days I look at her and see a world of expression and communication in her eyes -- and I'm always so surprised at how easily her and I get each other, even though she doesn't quite have language yet. So what's she like? She's quick and silly and just loves being around people! But more than that, she's not my little baby anymore and it's taking some getting used to. She has an opinion, and she isn't afraid to share (which sortaaa sounds like someone I know lol). She's outspoken and impatient at times, but also so full of quiet curiosity. She's got an independence about her that I admire, and a toughness that's hopefully going to stick with her throughout life. It's funny, all these tiny little things we can pick-up about our babies personalities in just a few short months! And of course...just a few days before her first birthday last weekend, Arya decided to finally trust herself. There's no big story, there's no big moment! One evening after work we were playing in her room and she just started walking. Just like that -- one second she was crawling, the next she was taking steps, and the very next she was clear across the room! And while all that was going down, I was perched still in the corner, not moving a muscle and not even breathing for fear of it being a fluke. WHY do we do that?! lol I couldn't be more proud of her -- not that she reached a huge developmental milestone. No, I'm proud because I was able to see what it took for her to get there. Lots of falling down, lots of picking herself back up, and lots of self confidence. It's a super cool thing to watch all that go down inside a tiny human, and I can't wait keep watching her grow into herself throughout toddlerhood!
